Calgary Youth Justice Society

This is the highlight of the week: getting to visit classes and activities and hang out with our city's youth. They charge my batteries and rekindle my faith in humanity. I can see firsthand that our youth are far more dynamic, emotionally controlled, and thoughtful than many of us as adults, no offence. This has been a life-altering experience that allows me to offer leadership and positivity, but also learn so many new skills myself.

The activities we carry out are amazing. Assembling dog toys from old ropes for the kennels across the city, writing notes to our elderly who may not receive anything on special occasions, sorting seeds for plant libraries, building care packages, along with amazing exercises to build camaraderie. We also learn about individuals like Dr. Temple Grandid, Malala Yousafzai, and Shannen Koostachin.

This program is far more intricate, dynamic, and amazing than what I have detailed here, and I'm committed to supporting this movement with the resources my corporation can provide. That said, what is just as important is my time and presence. I sacrifice personal leisure to ensure I have time for this program; however, once you get into this, you realize you are sacrificing nothing, you are gaining the greatest experience of your life, far better than any TV show that keeps you home. Get off the couch. Get involved.

Community Drum Circle

I have my girlfriend to thank for keeping me so grounded and connected with others. More recently, we went to a drum circle, and what a fun way to connect with a group of strangers. I believe society needs more activities where, even when you are offbeat, the group gets you back in the groove, pun intended.

More to come!

My first priority is to ensure the survival of Maple Groove, which is in its infancy. As it progresses, I hope to have a corporation that becomes a leader in the community and charity space, but through an entirely new lens.
